Description
A simple, immune-boosting remedy made with garlic, raw honey, ginger, and lemon to help prevent colds and soothe sore throats during cold season.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4–6 cloves fresh garlic, crushed or minced
- 3–4 tablespoons raw honey
- 2 cups water
- 1-inch piece fresh ginger, sliced
- 1 medium lemon, juiced
- 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 pinch black pepper
- Optional: ½ teaspoon turmeric, pinch cayenne pepper, 1 cinnamon stick
Instructions
- Crush or mince the garlic and slice the ginger into thin rounds.
- Add water, crushed garlic, and sliced ginger to a small saucepan.
- Bring to a gentle boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat to low to simmer.
- Simmer for 10-15 minutes to extract flavors and compounds. Add optional spices like turmeric or cinnamon now if using.
- Remove the pot from heat and let it cool for 2-3 minutes to warm (not hot) to preserve honey enzymes.
- Stir in raw honey, fresh lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, and black pepper until dissolved.
- Strain into a mug if desired, or leave chunks in. Serve warm.
Notes
Do not boil the honey, as high heat destroys its beneficial enzymes. Always remove from heat before adding honey. For a milder version, use 4 cloves of garlic; for a stronger version, use 6. This tonic can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days; reheat gently without boiling.
