Extra-Crispy Air Fryer Chicken Wings with Honey Garlic Glaze

  • Author: Harper
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

These extra-crispy air fryer chicken wings are coated in a light dusting of cornstarch for maximum crunch and tossed in a sticky, sweet, and savory honey garlic glaze. A healthier, faster alternative to takeout that delivers restaurant-quality results.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 pounds chicken wings (drumettes and flats)
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 stalks green onions, sliced

Instructions

  1. Pat chicken wings completely dry with paper towels to ensure crispiness.
  2. In a large bowl, toss wings with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika.
  3. Lightly dust the wings with cornstarch, tossing to create a thin, even coating without clumps.
  4. Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  5. Place wings in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they do not overlap. Cook in batches if necessary.
  6. Air fry for 12 minutes, then flip wings and rotate if needed.
  7. Continue air frying for another 10-13 minutes until skin is golden brown and crispy, and internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  8. While wings cook, melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  9. Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes; cook for 1 minute until fragrant but not browned.
  10. Stir in honey, soy sauce, and rice vinegar. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  11. Transfer cooked wings to a large bowl and pour half the glaze over them. Toss vigorously to coat.
  12. Serve immediately, garnished with sliced green onions and extra glaze on the side for dipping.

Notes

Ensure wings are completely dry before seasoning to prevent steaming. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches for best results. Toss wings in glaze immediately while hot for better adhesion. For a spicy kick, add Sriracha to the glaze. To keep wings crispy for parties, serve glaze on the side for dipping.
