Description
A simple, anti-inflammatory golden milk latte made from scratch with just five ingredients. This soothing, dairy-free friendly drink is perfect for winding down in the evening.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups milk (dairy, almond, oat, coconut, or soy)
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cardamom (optional)
- 1–2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil or ghee (optional)
- 1 teaspoon cacao powder (optional)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine milk, water, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, black pepper, and cardamom. Whisk gently while cold to prevent clumping.
- Add honey or maple syrup if using, and whisk until dissolved.
- Place the saucepan over medium-low heat and warm the milk gently, stirring occasionally. Do not boil.
- Once the milk is hot (just before boiling), reduce heat to low and simmer for 2-3 minutes to allow spices to infuse. Stir every minute.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Taste and adjust sweetness if needed. Whisk in coconut oil or cacao powder if using.
- Pour into a mug. Froth with a blender or handheld frother if desired, or whisk vigorously.
- Garnish with a pinch of cinnamon or turmeric and serve immediately.
Notes
Use fresh spices for best flavor and potency. Do not skip the black pepper as it aids in turmeric absorption. Never boil the milk to preserve enzymes and texture. Can be made ahead by mixing dry spices in a jar.
