Description
A quick, 5-minute warm beverage combining spiced chai concentrate with frothed vanilla milk and brown sugar for a comforting autumn treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 tablespoons (10g) loose leaf chai tea (or 2–3 tea bags)
- 1 cup (240ml) water
- 2 tablespoons (25g) dark brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup (240ml) milk (whole, oat, or almond)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon vanilla syrup (optional)
- Ice (optional, for iced version)
- Extra brown sugar for garnish
- Whipped cream (optional)
- Cinnamon stick for garnish
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine water, brown sugar, ground ginger, cardamom, and cinnamon. Stir to dissolve the sugar.
- Place over medium-high heat and bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to low once bubbling.
- Add loose leaf chai tea or tea bags. Steep for 3-4 minutes to create a strong concentrate.
- While chai steeps, pour milk into a bowl or pitcher and add vanilla extract.
- Froth the milk using a handheld frother, or shake vigorously in a jar and microwave for 30 seconds until hot and foamy.
- Strain the chai concentrate into a mug (if using loose leaf) or remove tea bags.
- Pour the frothed vanilla milk over the chai, holding back foam with a spoon, then spoon foam on top.
- For iced version, pour hot chai over ice first, then add cold frothed milk.
- Garnish with extra brown sugar, a cinnamon stick, or whipped cream. Serve immediately.
Notes
Use dark brown sugar for best caramel flavor. Do not boil the milk when frothing to prevent separation. Chai concentrate can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
